Few putters command as much respect as the Newport 2.
This build started with a Pro Platinum Newport 2 – one of the most sought-after shapes in the history of putter design. It’s the same lineage as the Oval Track Classic Art of Putting, a carbon steel head nearly identical in line, shape, and weight to the one made famous by Tiger Woods.
For those who know, this head geometry is the holy grail. The feel, balance, and precision of this design have written more history than any other.
The Pro Platinum version refines that same DNA, slightly flatter through the shoulders, with a wider top rail and a more deliberate stance. From the factory, it comes with a flange line, heel stamping, and bold branding along the sole.
Beautiful, yes, but loud.
My goal with this build wasn’t to erase its story… it was to reveal it.
THE BLANKOUT PROCESS
Every stamp and engraving tells where it came from, but sometimes, what’s beneath deserves to speak louder.
I start by welding in every marking – heel stamps, cavity text, sole engravings – and blending the welds back to a flawless, uninterrupted surface, restoring the purity of the putter design itself.
The flange line is welded in and the cavity hand-shaped, giving the head clean symmetry.
Then I convert it to a top-line dot alignment – a single focus point preferred by the greatest to ever roll this shape. It’s a subtle change that transforms the entire way the putter frames the ball.
Because the Pro Platinum is carbon steel, I first remove the nickel plating completely. Once stripped, the raw head is hand-shaped again – every bumper softened, every curve redrawn.
The dents are correct, radius trued, and flow lines established until it looks as though it was never touched.
THE FINISH
The head is then re-plated in satin nickel, restoring the soft, buttery tone of the Pro Platinum. The sole and face are hand grained for contrast – a clean, confident finish that catches light with restraint.
Once plated, all stamps and dots are filled with a translucent candy red – deep, glass-like, and perfectly balanced against the satin finish.
It’s a quiet nod to the most iconic gamer ever played, all built from an authentic Scotty.
THE RESULT
The result is a modern homage to the greatest putter design of all time, not replicated, but reborn. Every weld, every brushed line, every reflection carries history in it. It’s not about stripping the story away, it’s about revealing what was always underneath – the original intent, the feel, the performance.
This is how the classics are honored: not by decorating them, but by returning them to silence, where the craftsmanship speaks for itself.
Luxury isn’t convoluted with all over branding, it's about the craft. The integrity of the design, what is built into every detail, every contour, every line.
Blank out your putter. Reveal its history.
